Sublimation Printers

Wide-format dye sublimation for sportswear, soft signage and hard blanks

Choosing a sublimation printer

Sublimation prints dye onto transfer paper; heat turns the dye into a gas that bonds with polyester, so the print becomes part of the fibre and does not crack, peel or feel raised. It needs a polyester or polymer-coated surface and a light-coloured base, which is why it is the process behind sportswear, flags and soft signage.

Wide-format machines are bought for width and speed. A 64-inch printer feeds a calender or a large-format press, and its draft speed is what decides how many team kits leave the shop in a day.

If most of your work is cotton or dark garments, sublimation is the wrong process and DTF is the right one. Many shops run both.
